Drivers please take extra care at junctions in Markyate

posted 3 Aug 2011 06:59 by Markyate PC

We kindly ask all drivers to please take note of the KEEP CLEAR markings on the corner junction at the top of the high street.  All too often drivers waiting at the traffic lights to exit onto the A5 block this turning preventing residents from getting in and out.  At busy times this can cause a dangerous queue back onto the A5.  Your support in this is much appreciated.

"MANPAD" Local Initiative

posted 3 Aug 2011 01:25 by Markyate PC   [ updated 3 Aug 2011 07:21 ]

MANPAD is a unit of Bedfordshire police officers dedicated to the security of London Luton Airport.  They are currently engaging local communities situated close to the airport in a government backed initiative which asks that the public be their "eyes and ears" on the ground reporting anything considered suspicious.  MANPAD gave a presentation to the Parish Council which will also be delivered at various locations to the public through the  year.

They stressed that at present there is no known intelligence of any terrorist threat in our area of any kind, and wish the public to be aware that every effort is being made to reduce the risk of a terrorist related incident.

The Parish Council undergoes an internal audit each year to assure business is being carried out in a proper and compliant manner.  We are pleased to report that we received an excellent report this year with only two recommendations, both of which have now been implemented.  All day to day working practices, procedures, policies, assets and accounts are scutinised.

Village Planters

A special thank you to the community spirited volunteers who keep the planters looking so delightful at this time of year.  When in full bloom they certainly make a welcome and pleasing addition to Markyate.  The sense of civic pride taken in our village sets a good example to us all, and is greatly appreciated.
